We work with kala cotton, an indigenous rain-fed variety from Gujarat, handwoven by Laalji Bhikha Vankar, a master weaver in Kutch. Here he uses the Tangaliya technique, twisting extra weft around warp threads to raise tiny dots across the surface. These dots sit like beads within the weave itself, shaping lines and patterns as the cloth grows on the loom. In hand, the fabric holds the quiet weight of cotton, punctuated by a texture that marks Tangaliya as its own.
