We piece kala cotton herringbone with striped panels of mashru silk, both handwoven by artisans through Khamir Craft in Gujarat. The herringbone is made from kala cotton, an indigenous crop that grows with rain alone and lends the fabric its tensile strength. The mashru, woven with a smooth face and gentle sheen, settles into the cloth as stripe and surface. Together they give the fabric a distinct rhythm — the grain of cotton meeting the lustre of silk in a weave that feels both grounded and refined.
